This is a cute little story, but it did end a bit too abruptly for me with trying to be like It's a Wonderful Life. As with the previous full books and other short stories in this series, it's only real problem is that, for some reason, there are times when words are left out of sentences. I would have liked this to be twice as long so some of the scenes would have been longer. I won't bore you with a plot summary as I know other reviewers are fond of doing that, but in this case, the title gives it away, at least a tiny bit, if you think about it along with what I have already said. If you like the full novels and the other short stories, this one is a must read. It was rather fun "seeing" what happens when the main character goes full tilt left to her own mind. Have at it!Product details

It a DunderBull Wife edition by Karen Cantwell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Cantwell gives fans of the series a nice little Christmas present a fun view of the holidays with Barbara Marr and a little light relief for ourselves, with a little "Wonderful Life" and "Christmas Carol" mashup added. Who doesn't want to be the perfect homemaker/hostess, yet who doesn't realize that they don't really exist like we picture. Barbara's misadventures bring her (and maybe us) back to reality and appreciation of what she has. Very enjoyable.
It's Christmas and Barbara being Barbara gets in over her head with the preparation for large holiday party. You can't help but laugh at the antics that is Barbara as she scrambles to have the perfect Christmas for her family and friends. This was a fun and amusing read that will leave you with the holiday spirit and a smile.
If you've already read Take the Monkeys and Run and Citizen Insane, you'll appreciate having this nice little interlude at Christmas with Barb and her family. Yes, it's zany, funny and eye-rollingly crazy--but that's Barbara Marr and why we love her! All the main characters are there with a couple of new ones, including a chihuahua and in-laws! What more could you want for Christmas fun??
A wonderful blend of chick-lit with a Christmas message, some fun and some chuckles.
I am enjoying reading the Barbara Marr series and am currently on #4. This book is "A Barbara Marr Holiday Tale" and is just that, a short story about the main character. It is very enjoyable and a very easy read. It gives a little more insight into the Barbara Marr character, which I found very nice. If you are looking for a story with lots of twist and turn plots - don't get this one. If you are reading the series, do not skip this one. If you are not it is a cute story on its own.
Heroine goes out in public looking like an ultra slob and runs into the perfect woman. There is a detailed comparison between the slob and perfect woman with the heroine protrayed as very unattractive and insecure. Point of the short story is that the heroine discovers the perfect woman isn't perfect afterall and that we shouldn't automatically feel bad because others seem to be so perfect and we're so clearly as far from perfect as possible. Granted, it is a short story, but, really? Maybe a good story for very young girls, but then, they wouldn't relate to a middle-aged housewife.
I just luuuvvved this book!!! I laughed out loud on every page at the same time my heart was smiling!!!
Karen has the wonderful ability to create a story that's a total hoot and then some but one that tugs at your heart strings too.
What makes her books so darn funny is that most of the farcical adventures have that "been there...done that" recognition and an "OMG!...that sounds just like (insert the name of your relative or friend here)!"
What a treat of a holiday read!
And you'll never think of the holiday turkey in quite the same way.
A short, lively read that takes us out of our look for greener pastures until we end up in a real Dunder-Bull's moccasins. Barbara cleverly weaves her tale of feelings of inadequacy as she tries to become a super mom and wife when she realizes that "Dunder-Bull Wives make Stepford Wives look like couch potatoes." Little does she realize that acknowledging all her short comings will become easier once she faces her competition in the personage of a "real supermom, wife, daughter, and neighbor" whose life is even more of a mess than her own.
It is great to finally come to the point in her life when Barbara realizes that there are more Erma Bombecks in the suburbs than she ever realized. A fun look at self-realization without coming across as tacky/corny is the ultimate gift she learns to be thankful when she accepts that "she's a pretty good ol' girl herself." Buy the book.
